This session will focus on reshaping our economic system towards one that puts care at the forefront building on feminist thinking and movements. There are many different terms used to describe a vision for an alternative economic system (a social solidarity economy, doughnut economy, a postgrowth economy, wellbeing economy, etc.) along with different strategies and policies for enacting the change we want to see. This session will explore with participants the pillars of what a fundamentally different economic system built on feminist thought would look like, both in principle and in practice. There will be space for movements and activists in attendance to express in creative ways the answer to the questions:
- What should a new economic system look like and what examples of your vision on a care centered economy already exist?
- What practices towards a new economy are you seeing in your community/ context? We want to hear about the flowers blossoming in the cracks of the current economic system.
- What would help you be even more successful?
- What are your biggest challenges and opportunities?
- What do you need from the government, private sector, and others?
This session is taking the theme of ‘Another World is Possible’ of the WSF towards how we conceptualize and organize our economies.
