FINANCE FOR REPARATIONS : JUSTICE, EQUITY AND SYSTEM CHANGE
Finance for Reparations, Justice Equity and System Change
17th February, 2024 11:30-13:00 Balmiki Campus-BLOCK A-Ground Floor- Room-3
In view of the intensifying multiple crises that continue to wreak further havoc on the lives of our people and communities already burdened with long-standing social, economic, and political injustices. The mobilisation of finance to meet the rising scale and urgency of need is now being given much greater prominence in global and regional arenas and generating various responses and ideas - most not really new at their core but recycled, retweaked, and dressed up. Not surprisingly a lot of momentum, narratives, and proposals are coming from northern governments and international financial institutions. And the few southern governments who are raising their voices are not going far enough beyond the still very narrow frameworks and pathways being offered.
We need to intensify our efforts to assert Southern movements' perspectives, calls, and demands on the whole range of issues and themes under Finance - which we as a community have been campaigning on for more than 2 decades. We should even more vigorously engage and reshape the public and policy discourse, strengthen our resistance to anti-people and anti-planet policies, and step up our pressure and interventions for immediate reforms and system change.
Towards this, “Finance for Reparations, Justice Equity and System Change” is convened to re-affirm, update and refining our unities around a comprehensive platform that articulate our common Analyses, Critique, Strategic Demands and Immediate Policy Agenda for the mobilisation of finance that address the multiple crisis and the requirements for economic, development and climate actions.
