Slavoj Žižek in his work The Sublime Object of Ideology makes a very compelling analogy in the introduction of this great book. One that looks at two reactions/movements that people divide into when faced with proof and ideas that fundamentally challenge preceding worldviews or status quos. Namely, that we can either be like Copernicans (those that followed his proof of heliocentrism) or Ptolemnists (those that believed heliocentrism and its proofs were an assault, not improvement, to preceding explanations of heavenly arrangement, and thus a political threat).
Far from an unbridled and indiscriminate critique of the body of policies and historical phenomena we, if not cogently, cohesively refer to as neoliberalism, this will be a dialogue on its objective challenges, failures, and fallacies, especially when it comes to the stated goal of “prosperity for all”. We bring together youth and people of a diverse array of ideological tilts to have an open and compassionate dialogue on how we should approach governance, production, and the market, as if people mattered. This is especially important when we look at the dire straits of the climate crisis, and its exacerbating impact on the symptoms of social and economic inequality in the world.
