Economist and Expert on the Political Economy, member of ‘Council of Eminent Persons’, Malaysia
A leading economist and expert on the political economy of development, Professor Jomo Kwame Sundaram is a distinguished member of ‘The Council of Eminent Persons’, Malaysia. Professor Jomo served as Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) from 2005 until 2012. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Initiative for Policy Dialogue, Columbia University, USA, and an Adjunct Professor at the International Islamic University, Malaysia. In his exceptionally rich career Professor Jomo also served as Research Coordinator for the G24 Intergovernmental Group on International Monetary A-airs and Development and Assistant Director General for Economic and Social Development, Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN. He was the Tun Hussein Onn Chair in International Studies at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies, Malaysia. He is a recipient of the prestigious Wassily Leontief Prize (2007) for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic ought. Professor Jomo was educated at Yale and Harvard universities. He has taught at several reputed academic institutions including Harvard, Yale, and Cornell universities
