Screenings and Schedule

(180 min)

Daughter of Nepal (Documentary)

Dir: Surbhi Dewan; Nepal / India; 34 min.

Synopsis:

Daughter of Nepal is the story of Manushi Yami bhattarai, the unassuming daughter of two formidable political leaders of Nepal. She was sent across the border to live under an assumed identity as her parents prepared to go underground in the People's War in the mid-1990. The film catches up with Manushi in 2009, soon after her return to the chaotic political scene of Kathmandu.

Fairplay (Short Film)

Dir: Zoel Aeschbacher; Switzerland / France; 15 min

Synopsis:

A teenager in search of recognition, a worker ready to do anything to hit the jackpot, a senior executive at the end of his career who wants to prove to himself that he is alive. This film shows three characters, losing speed on the competition highway….

Trumpets in the sky (Drama/Short Film)

Dir: Rakan Mayasi; Lebanon / Palestine ; 15 min

Synopsis:

Boushra, one of the Syrian potato-picking girls in Lebanon, returns from a long day in the field only to learn that today her childhood will come to an end. Without dialogue, this film is a poetic visual contemplation on landscapes and the complexity of human traditions.

How she moves (Documentary)

Dir: Anya Raza, Aisha Linnea Akhtar; Pakistan ; 45 min

Synopsis:

The film follows the spirited Indu Mitha, a 90 year-old dance teacher as she prepares for her final dance performance in Pakistan. A minority in both religion and profession, Indu has been teaching the classical Bharatanatyam dance form in Pakistan for sixty years. The film provides insights into cultural identity and freedom of expression in a country where extremism, nationalism and suspicion of dance as a legitimate art form are pushing classical dance towards extinction. This film challenges narratives by telling a universal story of hope and resilience.

Singing a great dream: The revolutionary songs of Khusiram Pakhrin (Documentary)

Dir: Bhakta Syangtan and Anna Stirr ; Nepal ; 39 min

Synopsis:

This film includes the musical journey of Khusiram Pakhrin spanning nearly four decades of political movement and revolution in Nepal. From 1980s through 2006, their live performances were often banned and rarely photographed or recorded, Hence makers rely on Khusiram Pakhrin and his fellow performers for oral history and rare photos and footage of underground performances.

Nine Hills One Valley (Film)

Dir: Haobam Paban Kumar ; India ; 75 min

Synopsis:

The film centers around Ahum, a tribal from hills who is going to Impahal city in the valley to meet his daughter. She is going to New Delhi in search of job. During the course of journey, he encounters different people and their stories, gradually exposing the cruelty of ethnic conflicts.
