Introduction
Asian Human Rights and Culture Development Forum (Asian Forum)
Asian Forum is an independent nongovernment organization founded by the returnee migrant workers as a common forum to support the migrants and their families through the education, health and community services in 2005. Awareness, lobby and advocacy activities on the rights of the migrant workers and their families focusing on health and education, safe and dignified foreign employment, enterprise/employment opportunities in the country and social economical reintegration are the priority working areas of the organization.
From the time of its establishment, the organization has been implementing the health and education related programs and activities in the support of the various agencies from different part of the world. Asian Forum, probably, is the pioneer organization to start the community works based on the Social Enterprise concept.
Context
Reintegration of the returnee migrant workers have become a priority agenda of discussion among the government, nongovernment, private and other civic spaces in the recent years, especially after the global pandemic and consequent flow of the migrant workers. However, some of the countries witnessed the inflow of migrants while some experienced the outpouring of the migrants.
Recently, Government of Nepal has also introduced the guideline for the implementation of the programs related to the social economic reintegration of the returnee migrant workers. Most of the programs revolve around the agriculture and tourism sector. In the context of Nepal, the enterprise they choose upon return largely is concurrent to the destination they return from. Mostly guided by the peer influence, family occupation, availability of resources, market trend and the government programs. Most of the returnee migrant workers opt to upscale their sustenance agriculture to commercial farming. While some returnees, especially returning form the countries with high income, go for the tourism sector. And the other set of returnee are attracted to the small businesses that caters the local demands.
In this light, Asian forum is organizing the open interaction program to share the experience of returnee migrant workers in the process of reintegration. The event will share a commitment for the support in sustainable reintegration of the returnee migrant workers with and among the government, nongovernment and the private sectors while drawing recommendations to the government to structure a comprehensive integrated reintegration policies and programs.
